Microsoft releases Windows 10 build with support for audio codec AAC – Picture and sound – News

Microsoft has released a new Windows 10 build for beta testers that includes the AAC bluetooth codec. In the new Insider Build, users can use the audio codec that is also used on, for example, the iPhone.

The change comes in Build 21370, an Insider Preview beta released for Windows 10’s Dev Channel. Microsoft describes the various changes in that build, which are mainly audio changes. Most notable is the addition of the AAC codec for bluetooth. The Advanced Audio Coding codec is a lossy codec with a low bitrate that is used in Apple devices, but now also on Android devices.

Other changes to the Insider build are in the audio settings drop-down menu. From now on, Windows directly selects the device on which a user plays audio. Only one device will appear in the menu and that is the device that is currently in use. In addition, users can also set their volume from that menu, which used to be a separate setting.
