Microsoft releases interim fix for System Restore issue in Windows 10 – Computer – News

Very little, but often first run SFC / Scannow to check system files.
It often turns out that there is a bad sector somewhere on the disk, so you often want to run ‘chkdsk / r’ first or then I check the SMART log of the HDD, make a backup if necessary and scan with HDAT2 to see how many bad sectors there actually are and if there are some that are not writable.

But whether it solved a problem in Windows, hardly ever for me, with when that AppX platform is bugged and, for example, the start menu does not appear, or some Apps do not start or with such a vague error.

It is sometimes said that something was found that it could fix, where it sometimes wants some files but doesn’t have it, I then just mount a WIM from Windows 10 of the same build, give the Windows folder location of that image to DISM restore command, but after that the problem is not solved.
I then read the DISM log, check everything in it about wrong permissions, corrupt or missing files and configurations, but hardly ever had this do anything.

So further searching online for people with the same signs / symptoms, it turned out to be a certain update or driver with problems, or a certain app had to be manually removed from WindowsApps folder and / or reset with DISM, or a malware or other program that makes things unstable , or something even more vague that wasn’t in the log or could only be found online through some undocumented ‘0x00000000’ error.

It was often faster and easier to do a backup and restore / reinstall in the end, but I always try to figure out what’s going on first and fix it like that.

Well I’m talking about backup by the way, would like more users to do backups, still a little too little happens in my experience, you have options like OneDrive or an external HDD (this is again susceptible to ransomware if it destroys all backups).

Also, if you have more data and are advanced in setting it up, it would be helpful to have a proprietary network backup device such as a Synology or reliable hardware with FreeNAS, set RAID1 or RAID6 there, and then incremental backups, so that if ransomware writes to it, you that immediately notices the sudden extra storage usage (you have to check that of course) and that you still have a backup of your data (you should be careful if you have only set a limited amount of saved backups).
Is also useful with phones, since current cameras soon fill the 64GB storage with photos, a backup is done as soon as you get home and your phone and backup app sees the network backup. device.
It is of course smart to back up that network backup device to cold storage periodically per month.
