Microsoft received more data requests from the Netherlands in the second half of 2019 – IT Pro – News

Dutch investigation and intelligence services requested more data from Microsoft users in the second half of 2019 than a year earlier. In total, authorities requested account information 200 times.

The Dutch police and other authorities made a data request to Microsoft 200 times from July to December 2019. Those applied to 228 accounts, Microsoft registers his half-yearly reporting about withdrawal requests.

In most cases, ‘non-content data’ was requested, such as IP addresses or affiliated accounts. In 15 percent of cases, so 30 times, a request was refused, according to Microsoft. No data was found in 24 percent of the cases.

Microsoft makes no distinction between which government agencies request data. The number of requests in the relevant period is higher than before. In the first half of 2019, 191 data requests were made, although this involved 367 accounts. Six months before, in the second half of 2018, a data request was made 176 times.

The number of data requests has decreased worldwide. A total of 22,000 requests were made, compared to 24,000 in the same period a year earlier.
