Microsoft promises to make the context menu in Windows 11 faster

Windows 11 continues to update regularly with reports that Sun Valley 2 will resolve most of the major issues with the new OS. Windows 11 brings several design fixes to Timeline, including a new Start menu, notification center, taskbar, and modern context menu.

The context menu is an essential part of the operating system interface (in particular File Explorer) and has been updated with a new design that seems to slow down performance. The Windows 11 context menu has proven to be an issue when right-clicking on files or folders in File Explorer.

As part of its efforts to update the operating system, Microsoft reduced the number of options in the context menu and started using icons/buttons for options like copy or cute. While this step was supposed to improve performance and reduce the load on File Explorer, the new design materials have unwanted delays.

On some devices, there is a 1-2 second delay when right-clicking. Sometimes the Explorer context menu may flicker while trying to resize and load basic options.

Microsoft acknowledged the poor performance and was trying to reduce the impact of the new design.

With Windows 11 Build 22572, Microsoft introduced additional fixes to make the menu faster and users confirmed that the context menu loads faster than before.

“We’ve done some work with 22572 to improve context menu performance,” a Microsoft official He said.

Unfortunately, the Windows 11 update did not fix the bug where the context menu opens larger than its original size with no icons and then restarts.

You can easily restore the previous context menu

If you really don’t like the new menus, you can now easily switch to the classic menu using the Shift + Right keyboard shortcut.

Old context menu

Starting with Sun Valley 2, it will be possible to use Shift + right-click in File Explorer and on the desktop to activate the Show More Options button, which basically brings up the old context menu.

Remaining Windows 11 errors

Microsoft definitely needs to get Windows 11 context menus right as they are important to the overall usability of the operating system and the way Windows 11 runs in general.

The next relatively big update to Windows 11 is scheduled for fall 2022, and it may end up fixing most of the critical issues. For example, Sun Valley 2 or 22H2 version Restore support for drag and drop on the taskbarwhich will allow users to easily open files in any open application by simply dragging them to the taskbar.

in addition to, Windows 11 version 22H2 will also update dusty old areas of the operating systemlike print queue screen for UWP and Win32 apps.
