The US multinational computer software and services company Microsoft will announce this Wednesday new layoffs at the company, according to the main media outlets in the country. At the moment, the exact number of people to whom this new job cut will apply is unknown, although Sky News estimates that it will be about 11,000.
Last July, Microsoft notified a round of layoffs that affected 1% of its workforce, which had a total of around 180,000 employees, as a result of a “strategic readjustment” at the beginning of its new fiscal year.
Precisely next Tuesday, the technology giant will announce the results for the second quarter of its 2023 financial year, after earning 17,556 million dollars in the first, 14% less, weighed down by higher costs.
In 2022 alone, some 150,000 employees of a thousand large technology companies in the world were laid off in a year that began with the best omens and which, however, ended with a “black” November after the announcements of massive departures from Amazon, Meta and Twitter.
