Microsoft Plans to Integrate Crypto Wallets into Xbox Gaming Console: Leaked Documents

Recently leaked documents reveal that tech giant Microsoft plans to integrate crypto wallets into its Xbox gaming console.

The leaked internal documents posted on the gaming forum ResetEra show that the Xbox roadmap for May 2022 included support for crypto wallets. However, specific details about this planned integration have not been shown.

Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, attributes the leak to legal action by the Federal Trade Commission against Microsoft. The FTC’s opposition to Activision Blizzard’s $69 million acquisition led to Microsoft accidentally including leaked documents in their filings.

News items talk about important communications between Xbox executives, plans for a new discless Xbox Series X, a gyroscope controller, and even a next-gen hybrid Xbox in 2028.

Despite this, Spencer tries to make light of the situation and says that some plans have already changed. He says:

“It’s hard to see our team’s work shared in this way because so much has changed and there is so much to be excited about, both now and in the future.”

Cryptocommunity

Although Spencer has indicated that the company’s plans may have changed, the crypto community remains optimistic about the breach. Tyler Winklevoss, co-founder of Gemini, gives his opinion on the incident and highlights the enormous size of the gaming industry.

“Crypto is gamer money and gaming is a bigger industry than Hollywood and the music industry combined,” he says.

Meanwhile, this development has sparked speculation that the integration could open up new applications for cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin (BTC).

However, it’s important to note that Microsoft hasn’t confirmed any official integration yet. Nevertheless, the crypto community’s enthusiastic response underlines the importance of traditional tech giants embracing the emerging industry.

In August, Microsoft will expand its collaboration within the crypto sector by teaming up with Aptos Labs, the developer of the layer 1 blockchain network Aptos (APT). This collaboration aims to advance the capabilities of the web3 ecosystem.
