A new patent from Microsoft suggests that the design of Xbox controllers could finally change in the future. The main innovation of the controller will be the built-in display, which will significantly expand the controls and functionality of the device itself.
It follows from the patent description that the display in the gamepad will be needed for convenient connection to different devices. The screen will be located right in the center of the controller above the D-pad, which will partially repeat the design of the DualSense for PlayStation 5. According to the engineers, the display will be able to display your favorite notifications, and will also allow you to easily switch between console to cloud services.
The screen built into the Xbox controller can be used for other purposes. Probably, with the help of him, Microsoft will replicate the touchpad functionality on PlayStation gamepads. The new design still includes the Xbox button, as well as the traditional pause and menu buttons, which have been moved down between the control sticks.
