The improvements that Microsoft continues to add to its Paint program, and the company announces the addition of a wonderful new feature that is very similar to the way the most famous design and image editing program among professionals, Photoshop, works.
Microsoft is moving to make its legendary messenger software for Windows a useful tool for actual creatives by bringing some important design features, and today the arrival of one of Photoshop’s essential features is revealed.
Through an official blog, Microsoft announced the arrival of the layers feature to be part of the update being released for testing by Windows Insiders (which carries the build number 11.2308.18.0, which is available to some people in the Canary developer channels).
Microsoft says that the new update will bring the layers feature known among designers, which allows displaying a transparent background, and these features have long been the basics of general editing in Photoshop from Adobe, being a very important part of doing designs or editing on images.
What is interesting about the Paint program is that it remains completely free, and there are no signs of converting it to a paid version of launching plans with subscriptions, as is the case with Photoshop and its competitors, for example.
In the new version of Paint, users can use basic functionality needed to work with layers (add new layers, move, rearrange, merge, duplicate, etc.) to create more advanced works of art using photo elements and designs.
Another major part of this update is support for transparent backgrounds, including support for opening and saving transparent PNG files without backgrounds – which pairs well with the layers feature and facilitates better image editing.
It is worth noting that this news comes after reports confirmed that Microsoft is testing adding features using artificial intelligence to the Paint program, the most important of which is the ability to design images only by writing texts and describing what is required.
Expectations indicate that updates to the Paint program will arrive with the next update that Microsoft will provide for Windows 11, and this will likely be this September or November at the latest, according to the latest news.
