Among the many compatibility issues that prevent older computers running Windows 10 from being upgraded to 11, one has now been resolved.
Microsoft wants to end support for Windows 10 at all costs in the fall of 2025, which, by the way, is currently on 69 percent of Windows computers – writes the Origin. However, it is not possible to upgrade old PCs to Windows 11 because they are not officially compatible with the operating system.
A official announcement however, Microsoft has now found a way to close the compatibility gap. It happened to someone that the ability to upgrade to Windows 11 was blocked on some computers in 2022 due to an unruly Intel device driver.
Until now, the only way for computer users to remove the blockage was to manually update the problematic driver to a newer version.
Now the tech company was satisfied with the manual update and made the latest driver available through the Windows Update update service. This update service will install it automatically, opening the way to install Windows 11.
The restriction affects computers using Intel Core 11th generation processors, and only if they have one of the two special versions of the Intel Smart Sound Technology sound driver (10.29.0.5152 / 10.30.0.5152).
They say that there is currently no information on how many computers will be able to upgrade to Windows 11 with this step, but from the company’s point of view, it is certainly not enough.
