The heise editorial team was contacted by a reader who reported a strange problem that some people are now reporting: when Outlook 2016 is opened, only the repair of the data files is offered. Trying to set up a new Outlook profile with new data files has no effect. The reader writes: “So far we have been able to determine the problem with customers with Exchange / O365 accounts and with a customer with POP3 mailboxes.”
The The author of this article was also aware of the problembecause he got information about it from US bloggers. First Messages in the forum of askwoody.com show that it appears wider. Also im Microsoft Answers-Forum there are descriptions of the fault pattern.
In all cases, Outlook refuses to start because of the damaged PST file. Attempting to repair Outlook using the internal functions does not help those affected. It is currently unclear whether the problem in Outlook will be triggered by a Windows or an Office update from June 2020. The author is only aware of cases in Outlook 2016.
A possible workaround
In some cases, tampering with the Windows registry and deleting the information where the PST files are stored seems to help. The key in question is:

There is the LastCorruptStore value with the path to the PST file and the 32-bit DWORD value PromptRepair to delete. Then restart the Outlook client and then test whether the error message is gone.
Microsoft has confirmed the bug
Microsoft has meanwhile a support contribution published: The problem probably occurs with Office 365 in the Click-to-Run variant. As soon as the Outlook client has been updated to version 2005 build 12827.20268 or higher, an error can occur.
Printer problems that occur after the June security updates can be corrected with a correction update.
[Update 26.06.2020 11 Uhr] This problem was corrected by Microsoft in the Monthly Channel Version 2005 Build 12827.20470 and higher. To install the repaired build of Outlook, choose File, Office Account, Update Options, Update Now and let the client update.
