Jakarta

Microsoft officially acquired ZeniMax Media and its subsidiary, game publisher Bethesda with a nominal value of USD 7.5 billion or around IDR 108 trillion. Bethesda will also be releasing an exclusive game for Xbox and PC.

Perhaps this is the biggest deal to happen in the gaming industry. In fact, the USD 7.5 billion nominal value, first announced in September, brought Fallout Bethesda, Elder Scrolls, Doom and Dishonored and its eight game development studios to Xbox Game Studios.

This deal is bigger than Sony’s acquisition of Insomniac in 2019. They bought the game developers Spider-Man, Rachet & Clank, and the Spyro series for USD 229 million.

Reported by detikINET from GameSpot, Wednesday (10/3/2021) in a statement, Pete Hines of Bethesda said there were no important announcements or any changes in the current acquisition. Only information related to Microsoft which officially acquired Bethesda. Regarding the acquisition objectives for the future of Bethesda, there will be new information later.

“Let me say that we are not making any announcements or important changes at this time. As we have shared, it is hoped that Bethesda Softworks and our other studios will continue as we did in the past,” wrote Pete Hines, SPV of PR & Marketing Bethesda.

Other studios referred to by Hines are Bethesda Game Studios, id Software, ZeniMax Online Studio, Arkane, MachineGames, Tango GameWork, Alpha Dog and Roundhouse. This was also conveyed by the Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer.

“Today we officially finalize the deal and acquire ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks. It is an honor to welcome eight highly talented development studios such as Bethesda Game Studios, id Software, ZeniMax Online Studio, Arkane, MachineGames, Tango GameWork, Alpha Dog and Roundhouse, “wrote Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox.

While some games that are still under development and have yet to be released, such as Deathloop and GhostWire: Tokyo, remain exclusive to the PlayStation 5. In the future, however, there will be several new game titles made exclusively for Xbox and PC players.

The big question is whether in the future all games made by them will be exclusive to Xbox only, or will it be released on other platforms such as PlayStation and Nintendo? What do you think about detikers?
