Office support life cycle
Microsoft will end mainstream support for Microsoft Office 2019 on October 10th, US time. Additionally, support for connections from Office 2016/2019 to Microsoft 365 services will end on the same day.
After the end of mainstream support, only “Office 2019” will be provided with extended support for 3 years (usually 5 years). During the extended support period, you will receive free security updates and paid technical support. In the meantime, I would like to consider moving to a successor product.
Support for connecting “Office 2016/2019” and “Microsoft 365” services has also ended.
Additionally, the permanent version of Microsoft Office that can be connected to Microsoft 365 services is limited to versions in the mainstream support phase. In other words, the permanent version of Office will no longer support connections to Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, etc. after the dates listed below.
Microsoft 365 apps: Can be connected as long as you use a supported version Office LTSC 2021: October 13, 2026 Office 2019: October 10, 2023 Office 2016: October 10, 2023
As of October 13, 2020, “Office 2016” has already ended mainstream support. It is currently in the extended support phase, but as a special case, connectivity was supported until October 10, 2023.
Older Office apps that have passed their expiration date will not be actively blocked from Microsoft 365 services, so they won’t be immediately unavailable, but compatibility and testing will no longer be maintained. As a result, performance may suddenly drop, the connection may become unstable, or you may not be able to connect at all.
I would like to consider migrating to the latest one-time purchase version, “Office 2021,” or migrating to the subscription “Microsoft 365” app as soon as possible.
The schedule for end of support for the current “Microsoft Office” products is as follows.
