Microsoft makes Notepad available again in Windows Store – Computer – News

remarkable statement and exactly opposite to what I would consider a ‘proven method’

just look at Apple and the success of its app stores, Android as well, but also the different package managers in linux and BSD years ago.

All those developers and they all do exactly the same, admittedly one uses method A and the other uses method B but essentially they are all App stores.

There is one exception, and let it be the platform with:

A: Most piracy,
B: The largest selection of malware
C: The easiest way of malware removal (see a).
D: The largest number of installations of outdated software …

It’s very funny to see, but in the end the Windows store is one approach that mitigates all of the above objections somewhat.
Perhaps it would have been better if MS had chosen the PPA approach, as ubuntu does for example: the developer makes a tool: “Apt”,
the software farmer puts his software online in a certain format; repository,
and the user tells apt what software and from what source he wants to get that software; software management.

Undoubtedly there will be people shouting that you can download and install 3rd party tools like chocolate for something like that, but honestly I would never use a 3rd party hobbybob software update tool. A: because there are no decent security audits, B: because every soul can put software on it without authentication,
