Microsoft is making notable strides in its mission to become carbon-negative by 2030, leveraging the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to drive environmental sustainability. Kavickumar Murunganathan, Microsoft’s cloud ESG policy adn planning director for the Asia-Pacific region, highlighted the company’s commitment during a panel discussion on “Decarbonisation in the AI era” at ITW Asia 2024.
“We set these commitments four years ago and have been investing heavily to meet them,” Murunganathan stated. “These projects are not just about economic returns but also about delivering meaningful environmental impact.”
Murunganathan emphasized the transformative role of AI in Microsoft’s sustainability efforts. “The use cases for AI are tremendous,” he explained. “From improving operational efficiency to reducing emissions, AI is helping us meet our goal of becoming carbon-negative, not just neutral, by 2030.”
