Microsoft has officially launched the new Teams desktop app. By overhauling the framework level, performance was doubled in Windows and Mac environments, and memory usage was reduced by half.
On the 5th (local time), Microsoft announced the official launch of the Teams app for Windows and Mac.
The new Microsoft Teams desktop app was released in preview earlier this year. The host was switched from Electron to ‘WebView2’, and the user interface Angular JS was switched to React. Data processing was moved from the main thread to the client data layer, and the UX control area was converted to a fluent UI collection.

Following this transition, the new Teams app loads apps, joins meetings, chats, and switches channels twice as fast as the previous version, and consumes 50% less memory and disk.
Even after the preview was released, the Teams app was further improved. It has features such as business line apps, third-party apps, breakout rooms, 7X7 video, call queues, PSTN calls, contextual search for chats and channels, and cross-posting of channel conversations. It also includes multi-tenant organization (MTO) and multi-tenant multi-account (MTMA) support.
Existing Teams app users will automatically receive updates. To update manually, just tap the toggle at the top left of the app.
Not only did Windows performance improve, but performance also improved in the Mac environment. It uses device resources more efficiently even when using multiple high-resolution monitors. The security of the Teams app has also been improved by applying the Mac’s containerized app model.
Performance is also optimized in a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environment, using system resources more efficiently and increasing speed.
Ease of use has also improved. The company explained that it is now possible to do more with fewer clicks than before.
