Microsoft releases new Windows developer tools for 10X applications. Specifically, it is a first preview of new versions for the Windows SDK and the Microsoft emulator.

The preview versions now available offer developers the opportunity to design the first apps for dual-screen devices. In many offices, working with at least two desktop screens is already part of everyday life. However, since the business world is becoming more and more mobile, it is only logical that the convenience of two screens on one device is also required for on the go.

With the release of the new SDK and the new emulator, Microsoft now wants to launch tools to create apps for these dual-screen devices across devices for different providers with different operating systems. So far, a specific adjustment was required, according to Microsoft.

Participants in the Windows 10 Insider program can download the new versions of the developer tools directly from the Redmond website. The Windows SDK is used to create the applications. The Microsoft emulator, on the other hand, can be used for test purposes and for troubleshooting the apps.

Microsoft offers two different SDKs. One for dual-screen applications on Android and one for apps that should run on mobile Windows devices with two screens. Microsoft describes what specifications are required for the two different versions on its website.

Requirements for emulator

The emulator supports 64-bit systems with Windows 10 Pro, Enterprise or Education that have the Insider Preview Build 10.0.19555 or higher. An Intel CPU with at least 4 cores or several CPUs with a total of 4 cores is also required. Microsoft specifies the RAM requirements as 8 GB, 4 of which are intended for the emulator. A dedicated graphics device, such as a WDDM 2.4 graphics driver or higher, is also recommended.
