The American technology and software company Microsoft announced the launch of a version of the application to help the blind and visually impaired using artificial intelligence technology “Seeing AI” to work with the Android smart device operating system.
Microsoft indicated that the application can be downloaded from the Play Store application store and works in 18 languages, with Microsoft intending to support 36 languages next year.
The Seeing A.I. app audibly describes the place and objects around a person and is intended to help blind and visually impaired people perform tasks such as reading mail, identifying products, and hearing photo descriptions.
The user points the smartphone camera in any direction, so that the application describes the content of the image captured by the camera.
CNET.com, a website specializing in technology topics, noted that the application contains different categories for various tasks.
For example, the “Short text” function reads the text out loud once it is placed in front of the camera.
As for the “People” feature, it will identify the people around the person as soon as the camera falls on their faces.
The “Currency” function will help determine which currency notes the user is dealing with.
The “Sense” feature allows the user to hear a description of a place where a photograph was taken. The user can also move his finger on the screen while viewing the image, in order to know the location of the various elements on it. SeeingAI can also read handwritten text and identify colors.
It is noteworthy that the “Seeing AI” application is currently available for iPhone and iPad smartphones running the “iOS” operating system.
Meanwhile, both the Android and iOS versions contain updated features such as describing images in more detail and the option to ask questions about any document being scanned, such as the contents of any menu in it or the price of an item on a bill. You can also request a summary of any article from the application.
