Microsoft is reversing Xbox subscription price increase after anger gamers

Microsoft announced the price increase for the Xbox Live Gold subscriptions on Friday. In the Netherlands, that monthly subscription, with which Xbox users can play against each other online, would go from 7 euros to 9 euros per month, for example. But after a storm of criticism from Xbox gamers, Microsoft reversed the decision a few hours later. Microsoft scrapped the price increase and apologized.

“We messed up today and you rightly let us know,” the company writes. “Playing with friends is an essential part of gaming. That’s why we decided not to change Xbox Live Gold prices.”

Microsoft also announced that soon for multiplayer for free games, such as Fortnite or Apex Legends, an Xbox Live Gold subscription will no longer be required, as is still the case now. This change will be implemented ‘in the coming months’.
