Microsoft has been working on a special operating system for dual-screen devices called Windows 10X for some time. Monday, the company announced in a blog indicates that the new Windows 10X operating system will now also come to single-screen laptops.
Windows 10X is an operating system developed specifically for dual-screen devices such as Microsoft’s Surface Duo and Surface Neo. Chief product officer Panos Panay writes that these dual-screen devices are less of a priority at this point and Windows 10X development will now focus on single-screen laptops.
According to Panay, it is now more important for Microsoft to focus on the users who now have to work from home every day. Windows 10X should make it easier for users to work in the cloud.
The new operating system is aimed at working in the cloud. In addition, the interface is intended to be simpler than that of Windows 10. Details about the operating system are still missing, as is a release date.
Windows 10X was released in October 2019 along with two new devices announced. Earlier, the Microsoft Neo tablet would already be postponed and also the Surface Duo smartphone is not yet known when it will be in stores. For the release of the devices with two screens, “the right moment is being sought”, says Panay.
