A Microsoft presented this Thursday (24) Windows 11, the new version of its operating system for computers. Without revealing a specific release date, the company has indicated that the update will arrive later this year.

The system gained a new “Start” menu, which changed the interface of fixed shortcuts and gave more emphasis to recommended programs and files.

The taskbar, which displays shortcuts at the bottom of the screen, now centralizes the Start menu and highlighted programs buttons. The change was expected in Windows 10X, Microsoft’s project for devices with two screens that never got off the ground.

Microsoft did not reveal the release date for Windows 11 and indicated only that it will be released at the end of the year. The company has confirmed that Windows 10 users will be able to upgrade to the new generation operating system for free.

The new product comes at a good time for Microsoft, which hit $2 trillion in market value this week – it is the second publicly traded US company to reach that mark after Apple.

Windows is one of the world’s largest technology platforms, with Microsoft’s personal computing segment accounting for $48.2 billion of its $143 billion in revenue in the last fiscal year.

Windows 10 currently has 1.3 billion users. According to market research firm IDC, Microsoft’s system has an 80% share of the laptop and PC market.

The company informed that the support this version will end on October 14, 2025. The date, valid for the Home and Pro versions of the operating system, appeared on a page on the company’s website.

With the decision, Windows 10 will guarantee updates for 10 years. If you follow its predecessors, after this period, the system will not gain new features and should only receive security updates in very serious cases.
