Microsoft Introduces Privacy Controls: Disable Controversial Recall Feature in Windows 11

Microsoft will make it possible to remove the controversial revocation function in Windows 11. The company has added new privacy management tools, including the option to remove revocation completely. The company previously said that was not the intention.

Microsoft writes in a blog post that it has added several privacy elements to Remember. The company confirms that Recall will be an opt-in feature, something the company previously admitted after teasing the device. The pull-in appears when you set up PCs that support it. It’s surprising that Microsoft says that it will be possible to remove Recall completely. This can be done through the ‘optional features’ in Windows.

The company also provides more information about how data that Recall collects is stored VBS covers the key is stored in the Trusted Platform module. This is linked to a Windows Hello key, which makes it possible to only view the pictures that Recall takes after users have authenticated themselves.

Microsoft is also adding functionality to Recall where the device filters sensitive information. For example, passwords, credit card details and personal data will be removed from the photos. Users also have the option to delete photos themselves.

Recall is a controversial feature for Copilot+ computers. Microsoft announced it in May, as part of the new generation of Copilot PCs. However, the situation quickly came under fire; Memory always takes screenshots of the screen and provides information to the user based on them. The company previously canceled the news and now says that Recall will be available to all Windows Insiders in October. After the case, the company decided previously made Recall opt-in. This came to light earlier this month Windows included an option to remove Recallbut Microsoft quickly claimed it was a bug. Now that seems possible after all.
