Microsoft Introduces New Features for Windows 11 Tools: Snipping Tool, Phone Link, and Photos

Microsoft is reportedly testing new features for some of the tools included in the Windows 11 operating system, and the technology giant has updated its blog post to announce the latest features.

Beta updates have been released for tools such as Snipping Tool, Phone Link, and Photos. The Snipping Tool update also promises to improve the overall capture experience on Windows 11. These updates have been rolled out to Windows Insider users in the Canary and Dev channels.

Text actions using the Snipping Tool

The latest update to Snipping Tool has introduced a new feature called “Text Actions”. This feature can detect text in captured screenshots, and Text Actions will also make it easier for users to copy text from any image to share it with others or paste it into another application.

To use this feature, Windows Insider users must click the Text Actions button in the Snipping Tool application’s toolbar. Selecting this option will start displaying available text that can be selected and copied with the mouse.

Users can also click the Copy All Text button in the toolbar or use the shortcut Ctrl + A and Ctrl + C to select and copy all the text using their keyboard.

Using text actions in the snipping tool, users can remove sensitive information in screenshots before sharing. The Quick Redact option on the toolbar can automatically hide emails, phone numbers, or any selected text. Users can also select the Redact Text option from the click menu. Right click to hide the text.

Remote capture with phone link

Microsoft is also rolling out an incremental update to its iPhone Link app, and this update also introduces the ability for users to access and edit their latest photos from their Android mobile devices in the Snipping Tool on their computers.

Users will also receive instant notifications on their computers when a new photo is taken on their Android device. To do this, both devices must be connected via Fone Link.
