The Discord chat app is Microsoft’s latest target. Sources cited by the Bloomberg agency say the technology giant led by Satya Nadella is in talks to acquire Discord for more than $ 10 billion.
The same sources reveal that the application has been talking to potential buyers and that Microsoft is one of the companies in the race. However, nothing has been decided and Microsoft’s proposal may not be accepted.
Discord will, moreover, be more interested in the possibility of entering the stock market and going public with investors than in selling a stake or even the whole business to another company. Both Microsoft and Discord declined to comment on the possible negotiations.
“Microsoft’s possible acquisition of Discord makes a lot of sense since the app continues to reshape the gaming business towards software and services,” comments Matthew Kanterman. The Bloomberg Intelligence analyst believes that there is a great opportunity to integrate Nitro (Discord’s premium service) into Microsoft’s Game Pass.
This is not the first time that Discord explores possibilities regarding the future of the business. Bloomberg sources reveal that the application has also been in talks with Epic Games and Amazon before.
