Microsoft has over 10 million Xbox Game Pass subscribers – Gaming – News

There are more than 10 million Xbox Game Pass subscribers, Microsoft says. It is not known how many of these were added in the past quarter. Microsoft does say that gamers are more active than ever. 90 million gamers are now active on Xbox Live every month.

The number of Xbox Live monthly active users increased by 42.8 percent from the same period last year. The big increase in the use of Microsoft’s online gaming service is probably related to the corona pandemic. As a result, people spend more time at home and play more.

More than 10 million people pay for Xbox Game Pass. That’s Microsoft’s subscription service that allows members to access a selection of over a hundred Xbox games for $ 10 a month. There are also variants of the subscription: Xbox Game Pass Ultimate costs 13 euros per month, which also includes the Xbox Live subscription. Xbox Game Pass for PC is currently in beta costing 4 euros per month.

Microsoft puts a lot of promotion around its Game Pass subscriptions. For example, gamers can convert the months they have from Xbox Live Gold credit to Game Pass Ultimate, for a one-time payment of 1 euro. AMD also gives away Game Pass credit for a number of months with new video cards. It is not known how many subscribers actually pay the full subscription amount.

There are now also ‘hundreds of thousands’ of people who test Project xCloud. Microsoft has been experimenting with that streaming service for games for years. Since this week, gamers can also play in the Netherlands participate in the xCloud test. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella released the figures during a discussion of the quarterly results. A transcription of that can be read at Seeking Alpha.

Microsoft’s gaming division posted quarterly revenues of $ 2.35 billion. That is almost the same as the same quarter a year ago, when sales were $ 14 million higher. Sales from Xbox hardware sales were down 20 percent; according to Microsoft, that is due to the lower prices of Xbox consoles. Those prices are lower because the current generation is coming to the end of its cycle.

In the first quarter of 2020 Microsoft generated sales $ 35 billion, up 15 percent from last year. Net profit was $ 10.8 billion, up 22 percent from the year-ago quarter.
