Microsoft canceled (“postponed indefinitely”) its Surface Neo, the mobile flagship and upcoming premiere of Windows 10X, last April. Even then, the situation showed that not everything went according to the original plans and this decision will probably affect Windows 10X. Touched. At first, however, it seemed that the system for two-screen products would only become a system for cheaper devices. However, it was later rumored that Windows 10X would not support Win32 applications, which might not do well for some users. Since the first half of May, it has been rumored that Microsoft has finally cut Windows 10X completely, which has now been confirmed.
John Cable, vice president of Microsoft, has announced their end. Of course, in a beautiful way that explains how great the cancellation of Windows 10X is and how Microsoft has catered to users:
After years of research and user interviews, we realized that Windows 10X technologies can be useful in a broader context and serve more customers than we originally envisioned. We conclude that Windows 10X technologies should not be limited to some customers. Instead of launching a product called Windows 10X, as originally planned, we use the knowledge of previous developments and accelerate the integration of the Windows 10X technology foundation into other Windows [10] and products of our company. Some features have already appeared in the Windows core within Windows Insider, such as new “app container” technology integrated into products such as Microsoft Defender Application Guard, “Voice Typing” enhancements, and an upgraded touch keyboard optimized for key size, sound, color, and animation. Our teams continue to focus on areas where Windows 10X technology can meet customer needs […]. |
So you see. What has already been developed for Windows 10X has somehow gotten into or may get into Windows 10 and other Microsoft products, but stand-alone Windows 10X is no longer planned. Maybe if someone advised Microsoft that it was a good idea to first ask customers what they were interested in and then prepare for it (and not the other way around), the company could save itself several years of development and unnecessary lost time.
