Microsoft confirmed that the modular version of the Windows 10X operating system is preparing to be released on classic laptops and PCs. This OS was originally intended for dual-screen solutions like Surface Neo, but the pandemic adjusted plans.
Approvedthat these solutions will not appear in 2020. Instead, Windows 10X will find use on conventional laptops. According to Panos Panay, the chief product specialist for the Microsoft Devices group, this task is now a priority for the company, as it will satisfy demand.-
There is no data on the release date of Windows 10X, but it is already known that the OS should actually replace Windows 10 S on inexpensive devices. It should also become a competitor to ChromeOS.
It is important to note that by default, Windows 10X will only allow approved applications from the company’s store. Changing the system registry settings and performing other similar actions will fail.
At the same time, Win32, UWP, and PWA applications will run in separate virtual machines, which is said to increase security. However, this can adversely affect performance and battery life.
