Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Revolutionizes Gaming with 50 GB Installation and 2.5 Petabyte Cloud Database

technology, the installation of the game will only take up 50 GB, which is a significant reduction compared to previous versions.

However, Jorge Neumman, head of development, explained that the aircraft database used in the game has reached an impressive size of 2.5 petabytes (2,500,000 GB). In order to not have to install so much data on users’ devices, the studio decided to stream content from the cloud.

This innovative method will not only significantly reduce the required disk space, but will allow developers to continuously expand game content without burdening players’ devices.

Neumman confirmed that thanks to the cloud, it is possible to add so many detailed elements, such as new airports, without affecting the size of the installation.

It is worth noting that the trend of increasing game sizes has become a problem for many players in recent years. For example, the previous version of Microsoft Flight Simulator from 2020 (after updates) reached almost 500 GB.

The new edition of the simulator will also introduce the ability to explore the world on foot, which highlights the scope of the changes while reducing the size of the installation.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 launches on November 19 on PC, Xbox Series X | S and Game Pass.
