Microsoft fails to meet its growth goal with Xbox Game Pass

Microsoft failed to meet his growth goals with Xbox Game Pass for the second consecutive year.

Microsoft’s target for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2022 was a growth rate of 72.88%, according to the documentation (page 51) presented by the company itself to the North American authorities.

However, growth over this period, as detailed in the same document and the latest financial results, was only 28.07%.

This is the second consecutive year that Microsoft has not met its goals. In fiscal year 2021, the growth target was 47.79% and what grew over that period was 37.48%.

In fiscal 2020, however, the growth targets were exceeded. Microsoft had a target of 71% and by the end of that period it had achieved growth of 85.75%.

This new information corresponds to the statements made a few days ago by Phil Spencer, in which he stated that the growth of Game Pass on consoles was “slowing down”. On PC, however, the growth has been remarkable in the last year.

Xbox Game Pass had twenty-five million subscribers as of January 2022, according to the latest figures provided by Microsoft. As for the fleet of consoles, there are about sixty-three million (counting Xbox One and Xbox Series), as stated in the documentation submitted to the British authorities as part of the validation process of the purchase of Activision-Blizzard.
