However, Microsoft now plans to stop WSA operations this year. Windows 11 users who have installed Amazon Appstore or Android apps can still access those apps until March 5, 2025.
Apart from that, Amazon also plans to close access for new users to download the Amazon Appstore from the Microsoft Store, Microsoft’s application store for Windows.
“Because Microsoft is ending support for Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA), the Amazon Appstore on Windows 11 will no longer be supported after March 5 2025,” wrote a statement uploaded by Amazon on Tuesday (5/3).
“Developers cannot provide new apps for Windows 11 after March 5, 2024, but developers with existing apps can continue to provide app updates until the Amazon Appstore on Windows 11 is completely retired,” it added.
Although support for WSA will end, users can still run Android apps on Windows via third-party platforms. For example, Waydroid is intended for the Linux operating system, then there is BlueStacks for Windows and macOS users. On the other hand, Microsoft is still trying to bridge Android and Windows users through several new features it presents.
Recently, Microsoft launched a feature that allows Android users to use their phone camera as a webcam in Windows 11. Then, Microsoft also introduced applications such as Link to Windows, which allows Android and iOS users to make and receive calls, reply to text messages, and check or ignore notifications from Windows PC devices.
