Microsoft has quietly discontinued it’s Surface Studio 2 Plus all-in-one PC, just two years after its release. Retailers have been reporting dwindling stock in recent weeks, and Microsoft has now confirmed too Windows central that production of the device has ceased.
“Customers can continue to purchase Surface Studio 2 Plus thru retailers and partners with stock,” Microsoft said in a statement. “for areas reaching out of stock, Surface Studio 2 Plus will no longer be available for new purchases.”
The Surface Studio, first unveiled in 2016, was a surprise addition to Microsoft’s Surface lineup. Its unique hinge allowed the 28-inch touchscreen display to fold down, transforming the device into a giant tablet ideal for drawing and creative tasks. Microsoft aimed the Studio at creatives, a market traditionally dominated by Apple, at a time when the company was looking to revitalize the desktop PC experience with Windows 10.
While the Surface Studio was always a premium and niche device, its innovative design and focus on creative professionals set it apart. The discontinuation of the Surface Studio 2 Plus marks the end of an era for Microsoft’s ambitious all-in-one PC.
That’s a great start!
