INDOZONE.ID – Rumors about Microsoft releasing Windows updates once every three years turned out to be true. But in 2024, the expected update is not Windows 12.
Recently, Microsoft confirmed that the upcoming major feature update is called Windows 11 24H2.
Microsoft revealed this shift in strategy in the change notes for the Windows 11 Insider Preview Build.

“Starting from Build 26-xx today, Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channel will see the version updated under Settings > System > About (and winver) to version 24H2,” Microsoft wrote in its official blog.
“This indicates that Windows 11, version 24H2 will be an annual feature update for this year. As mentioned here, Windows 11 will have an annual feature update schedule released in the second half of the calendar year,” the tech giant added.
Microsoft is committed to one annual feature update for Windows 11, which is scheduled to be released in the second half of each year.
This marks a change from the smaller, more frequent “Moments” updates that have occurred in the past.
This decision may stem from Microsoft’s concerns about the increasing fragmentation of its user base.
Windows 10 continues to dominate market share with 66%, while Windows 11 still lags behind with 28%.
Introducing Windows 12 in 2024 could further divide the Windows ecosystem, a situation Microsoft may want to avoid.
