Microsoft confirms another Windows 11 problem, promises to fix it in a future release

Microsoft has confirmed that some users using applications such as image editors may have encountered a color reproduction problem after upgrading to Windows 11. Additionally, there are reports of other errors in recent versions of Windows 11, and Microsoft is investigating those reports.

A bug in Windows 11 can reportedly prevent some image editing programs from reproducing colors correctly on certain monitors (mainly HDR). This was observed when users tried to edit images by cutting white colors or a white / light background. If affected, your photos may appear bright yellow or other colors.

Microsoft confirmed That error occurs when the Win32 APIs return unexpected information or errors under specific conditions. This is a problem with Windows 11 itself, and updating your third-party apps won’t make a difference in most cases. According to the tech giant, the Windows 11 bug does not affect all color management programs that are affected.

Microsoft expects the color profile options in Settings and Control Panel to work as expected on stable versions of the operating system.

A future version of Windows 11, due out at the end of January, will solve problems with HDR or image-editing applications. If you are a member of the Insider Program, you will have access to the solution in the newer versions. According to the Feedback Hub reports, the monitor color rendering bug appears to be completely fixed when running these preview builds.

What’s broken in the latest updates

Windows 11 KB5008215, which was released on December 15, is also plagued with various problems. For example, some users have claimed that they cannot apply the cumulative update because the patch installation fails with encrypted error messages.

Similarly, some people still have performance issues with certain storage drives like SSD and NVMe.

For those unaware, a known issue in Windows 11 can slow the performance of storage drives in certain cases. This usually happens when you try to move files between the system partition and the rest of the partitions, as the error only affects the partition where Windows 11 is installed.

It is not yet clear when these issues will be fully fixed in the OS, but we expect additional bug fixes in the optional January update.
