Microsoft Completes Last Regular Service Cycle for Windows and Other Products, Spotlight replacing Static Wallpaper in Windows 11

We have completed the last regular service cycle for Windows and other products from the Microsoft stable. Last time there was the final release of the big news package for Windows 11 22H2, and the distribution of version 23H2, which is quite minor in itself, also started.

Now things are settling down and mainly the existing code is being debugged. However, it is not the case that no news has arrived in the Eleven. They’re just mostly focused on Copilot, which we can’t use in Europe. Microsoft is also announcing that it will gradually turn on Spotlight as the default desktop background solution.

The static default wallpaper will thus be replaced by continuously changing images from Bing. The curatorial role is good for Microsoft, the images just suffer from excessive compression sometimes. But it will probably satisfy the majority audience. Of course, Redmond will not change wallpapers that people have chosen and set themselves.

Spotlight beckons for cool pictures. You can optionally use it from last year

Spotlight will start appearing on computers that have been left with the default Windows 11 wallpaper, but we can’t say exactly when it will be in your case. There is one more detail heading from the test builds to the final version of Eleven – more unspecified Microsoft account notifications on the Settings home page.

Let us remind you that in the second half of December, the usual optional service update for Windows with functional news is not waiting for us, due to holidays and vacations. The next service update that you will be able to install will be released on January 9th.

Overview of released updates

On December 12, Microsoft released the following updates for supported consumer editions of its operating systems:

Microsoft will gradually turn on Spotlight instead of static wallpaper in Windows 11
