Microsoft completes acquisition of Nuance for just $19.7 billion

During late 2021, Microsoft announced the acquisition of giant AI and technology company Nuance Communications for $19.7 billion, at the time citing its efforts in the areas of cloud, hardware, software and use in medicine.

After the regulatory periods for approval of the purchase, it was informed this Friday, March 4, that Nuance is officially part of Microsoft, joining other divisions of the company such as Office 365, GitHub, Azure, Xbox, LinkedIn, Windows and Surface.

“The completion of this significant and strategic acquisition brings together Nuance’s best conversational AI and environmental intelligence with Microsoft’s secure and trusted industry cloud offerings,” said Scott Guthrie, executive vice president of the Cloud + AI Group at Microsoft.
“This powerful combination will help providers deliver more affordable, effective and affordable healthcare, and will help organizations across industries create more personalized and meaningful customer experiences across cloud, artificial intelligence, hardware and software. I couldn’t be more pleased to welcome the Nuance team to our Microsoft family.”

Nuance will be incorporated into the company’s Microsoft Cloud + AI group, which already includes the HoloLens, PlayFab, Game Stack, Azure Kinect, CyberX, AltspaceVR and ReFirmLabs segments, helping in the security, medicine, external software (entertainment) and hardware segments. .

This acquisition is the 3rd largest ever made by Microsoft, behind only the purchase of LinkedIn for US$ 26 billion in 2016, and the recent purchase of Activision Blizzard by the Xbox (Microsoft Gaming) sector of the company, which acquired the game publisher as Call of Duty for $68.7 billion, making it one of the biggest acquisitions in the entire entertainment industry, which also includes Disney’s purchase of 20th Century Fox ($71 billion) and Time-Warner by AT&T ( $85 billion).
