Microsoft Completes Acquisition of Activision Blizzard: What it Means for Xbox and the Gaming Industry

On the eve of the weekend, Microsoft completed its acquisition of one of the largest gaming companies – Activision Blizzard, after lengthy negotiations, leaks, lawsuits and other issues.

This means that Activision Blizzard has now officially become the property of Xbox, and also that the number of Microsoft employees in their gaming divisions has immediately increased by 15 thousand souls. But what exactly did Microsoft get, what was included in this deal, and what are all of their studios currently working on?

Xbox fan Klobrille presented an infographic highlighting the projects, how many employees each department has, what game engine they use, and more. To see all the details, enlarge the image.

Microsoft and Activision Blizzard have not yet made a detailed statement about what to expect in the future, similar to what was presented after the purchase of Bethesda. But given the sheer number of studios Xbox now has, it’s safe to say there won’t be a shortage of games for Xbox and Game Pass in the future.

On the other hand, this picture clearly shows why regulators were worried about the potential monopolization of Xbox. In one fell swoop, Microsoft’s gaming division became one of the largest in the world, with more than 22,000 developers, dozens of internal projects, and the largest franchises in industry history.

Can Xbox manage it all optimally?
