Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has announced that he wants to double down on the Xbox division, now that the acquisition of Activision Blizzard has been completed. According to the CEO, video games are an important pillar within the company.
Nadella announced the news during an interview with MSN. Microsoft considers video games, along with developer tools and proprietary software, to be the company’s most important products. Although Nadella believes that Microsoft can ‘still make a strong contribution to the consumer market’ through games.
The CEO believes that video games are gaining in popularity every generation and now that Activision Blizzard is owned by Microsoft, the company is “in a stronger position to meet that demand for video games.”
According to the CEO, people are spending much more time on video games. Also, game development and even the way studios bring their games to the public is “radically changing.” That’s why Nadella wants Microsoft to “double its efforts as a developer and publisher, because the company is now one of the largest publishers of games and creating platforms to play those games on.”
Of course, everything starts with solid exclusives. And in that area, Sony is still in the lead.
