Microsoft has provided Sony Interactive Entertainment with a subpoena, which is an interesting twist on the ongoing case. The Japanese are the first company to officially oppose the deal to take over the creators of Call of Duty, Diablo or Overwatch. The details obtained would help build a line of defense against further actions and lawsuits brought by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
The corporation wants to receive accurate information about the production of games that PlayStation (for obvious reasons) is reluctant to share in the public space. The data obtained could lead a judge to reject the FTC’s request to block the transaction:
“Negotiations between Sony Interactive Entertainment and Microsoft regarding the scope of SIE’s production and disclosure schedule are in progress” – we can read this mention in the documentation.
Sony has until January 27 to file a restriction, waiver, or other response to the summons.
We can safely suspect that the request of the Redmond giant will not only help to lift the veil of secrecy about the development process of PlayStation’s own productions, but the data could also include documentation on the acquisition of exclusive games and third-party add-ons by the Japanese manufacturer.
