Microsoft and Sony continue to feud over Activision Blizzard’s purchase deal and future exclusivity of multimillion-dollar franchises like call of Duty en Xboxsomething Playstation wants to avoid at all costs.
To try to move forward Microsoft offered a 10-year deal for Call of Duty to keep coming out on Playstation instead of the first three years, as reported by the New York Times.
Microsoft approaches Playstation with Call of Duty… will there be an agreement?
From Microsoft they remain attentive to the investigation of different markets such as the European or the British one to give the green light to the purchase of Activision Blizzard for a value of 68,700 million dollars.
Surely so that Sony does not put so many obstacles to said agreement, the Redmond company wants to reach an amicable agreement, and after an initial offer of three years that Sony has deemed “inappropriate” there have now been 10 years offered for the CoD saga continue to release on Playstation consoles.
The ball is in Sony’s court, which has not yet spoken publicly, so they may consider accepting the settlement or continuing to fight in the courts and/or regulatory bodies in hopes of getting something better.
This is what Jim Ryan, CEO of Playstation, commented when the attempted three-year agreement was made public:
Microsoft only offered Call of Duty to stay on PlayStation for three years after the current deal between Activision and Sony ended.
After nearly 20 years of Call of Duty on PlayStation, their offering was inadequate on many levels and didn’t account for the impact on our players. We want to make sure that PlayStation players continue to have the highest quality Call of Duty experience and Microsoft’s proposal undermines this principle.
We will see if an agreement will finally be reached that facilitates the conclusion of the purchase, which is still approved in several countries such as Brazil or Saudi Arabia, albeit in a major review in Europe that could last until March 2023.
