Microsoft finally allowed users to uninstall the Cortana app on Windows 11. Starting with Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25921 in the Canary channel, the Cortana app can be uninstalled. Previously, users could not even uninstall the voice assistant app, and let’s be real. Not many users have used Cortana in the past, as Microsoft says in the announcement: “Starting in August 2023, we will no longer support Cortana in Windows as a standalone app.”
Microsoft confirms that this modification will only affect Cortana in the two operating systems Windows 10 11, however, Cortana will still be available in Outlook mobile, Teams mobile, the Microsoft Teams screen, and Microsoft Teams Rooms.
From now on, when users open the Cortana app, a message from Microsoft will appear stating that “Cortana in Windows as a standalone app has been deprecated.”
How to uninstall Cortana app on Windows 11
1. Open the Settings app.
2. Click on Apps > Installed apps.
3. Type “cortana” into the search bar.
4. Click the button on the right of the screen.
5. Click Uninstall from the menu.
