Microsoft allows permanent WFH employees

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

A giant technology company Microsoft on Friday (9/10) released manual works new which explains that some employees are allowed to work at home (work from home /WFH) permanently. That means employees don’t need to visit the office even though the Covid-19 pandemic has ended.

Microsoft now allows WFH employees more than 50 percent of working hours per week, and for WFH-approved managers forever. Even so, employees who take the permanent WFH option must give up the work area in the office to be taken over and take advantage of the dropping area to go to the office from time to time.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has challenged us all to think, live and work in new ways,” said Microsoft Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer Kathleen Hogan, in an employee memo, as reported. The Verge.

“We will offer as much flexibility as possible to support a new way of working for individuals, while balancing business needs, and ensuring we live a culture.”

Micorsoft explained that the permanent WFH option is difficult for employees who work in certain fields such as laboratories and data centers. The company also allows employees to move their location of residence, even abroad, if work is still possible.

According to The Verge, Microsoft’s decision was influenced by the United States government’s policy of not opening offices in at least January 2021. Microsoft initially allowed WFH in March before making it mandatory as the pandemic continues to expand.

Microsoft isn’t the only big company to allow permanent WFH. Previously, the CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, changed the way more than 10 thousand employees work to become WFH.

Half of those employees can take the permanent WFH option for a period of five to 10 years.
