The Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Hristiyan Mitskoski, said today that Bulgarian politicians want to include the subject of North Macedonia and the “Macedonian question” in their election campaign.
Thus he commented on yesterday’s announcement by the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs that the process of European integration is based on its own merits and does not allow mediation between the EU and a candidate country for membership, and “the only guarantee of success is the fulfillment of the established criteria and conditions”.
“I have said many times that we will not be naive and fall into such traps. We have our own interest and purpose, and we intend to move swiftly toward our interest and our purpose. As for the negotiations with our eastern neighbor, we are ready when they want and based on a platform and a plan to sit down and talk, find a solution and respect international standards,” Mickoski said.
“What was proposed by the current President of the EU, Viktor Orbán, is on behalf of the European Presidency. Now we have to see who sends what signals from Bulgaria – some send one, others send other signals. Our signal is clear – we want a real solution and not we accept blackmail and ultimatums”, Mickoski was categorical in response to a journalist’s question, after launching the reconstruction of the “Deve Bair” border crossing with Bulgaria.
