MORELIA, Mich., May 1, 2023.- One month after the new operating rules of the Program for Women with Invasive Breast and/or Cervical Cancer were published, the Ministry of Well-being (Sedebi) reported a growth of 28 percent. percent in the number of applicants to join the register of beneficiaries.
In a press release, the head of the agency, Giulianna Bugarini Torres, pointed out that, in March 2023, when only women mothers of children under 18 years of age and without rights in any public health institution were considered, there was a record of 84 incorporated, and that, after the modification to the operating rules, in April there are already 107.
“With the adjustments to the operating rules, published on March 30, we open the program for all those women who are not mothers, who are mothers of people over 18 years of age, caregivers of minors or beneficiaries of a health institution, They can also be beneficiaries of the program,” he said.
Bugarini Torres explained that currently, 90 percent of the beneficiaries are breast cancer patients and 10 percent of invasive cervical cancer, who are from 40 of the 113 municipalities, that is, there is coverage of 30 percent of the state territory.
The program provides monthly economic support of 4,000 pesos to Michoacán women between the ages of 18 and 64 who are undergoing cancer treatment or surveillance, for up to three years, with the aim of ensuring that they do not abandon medical care due to lack of financial resources.
During the month of April, Sedebi installed more than 50 mobile modules in the same number of municipalities to bring the incorporation process closer to new beneficiaries; Morelia has the highest number of registered women, followed by Zitácuaro, Hidalgo, Uruapan and Apatzingán.
