“Michoacán Lifts Covid-19 Health Emergency but Maintains Sanitary Measures and Mandates Vaccination”

The vaccination scheme against Covid-19 will be permanent and mandatory.

Morelia, Mich. – After the State Health Council met this Saturday, it was determined to lift a health emergency due to Covid-19 as of this Monday, but the sanitary measures will be maintained, confirmed the Secretary of Health in Michoacán, Elías Torres Ibarra.

In an interview, he said that after the federal government’s announcement on May 9, where President Andrés Manuel López Obrador signed a decree suspending the extraordinary measures associated with the pandemic, he specified that in Michoacán only conditions under which will take place.

“We held sessions to determine the route to follow, after the Ministry of Health and the President of the Republic decreed the end of the health emergency and the post-covid sanitary measures, this has to be transferred to the state, so that, once the variants, positive cases and deaths, it is possible in the state to give an approach so that Michoacán declares the end of the emergency”, he said.

He also indicated that after this decision a total of 300,000 Michoacáns remain who for some reason were not vaccinated, of these only 82 percent have the complete scheme, and only 93 percent have any vaccine.

He reported that the Ministry of Health has the Abdala vaccine of Cuban origin; “We have 100,000 doses to start with and we are going to reinforce vaccination, following the application protocols and guidelines,” he mentioned.

In addition, he specified that vaccination against Covid-19 will be mandatory and will be contemplated within the vaccination scheme, in order for this disease to go from epidemic to endemic, as happened with the H1N1 influenza.

“It is going to be included, and it is provided for in the decree at the national level that it is in the vaccination scheme,” he said when exposing that it is for people over 18 years of age, but asked not to trust himself.

He reported that in the last 8 months only 70 deaths have been registered, where some have a background of illness or are people who did not receive any vaccine.
