An American teenager was sentenced to life in prison without parole for killing four students at his high school in the northern state of Michigan in 2021 with a gun given to him by his parents, AFP reported.
Ethan Crumbley, who was 15 at the time of the shooting, was sentenced by Oakland County District Court to life in prison without parole, although such sentences are extremely rare for juveniles in the state of Michigan.
The teenager, now 17, expressed remorse for what he had done before the sentencing and promised to make amends in prison.
“I couldn’t stop myself. I’m a really bad person. I’ve done terrible things,” Crumbley justified, quoted by the Associated Press.
Craig Schilling, whose 17-year-old son Justin was one of the victims, said the killer should “rot in jail,” according to Reuters.
The judge in the case listened to the relatives of the victims and promised them that their just demands would be heard.
In October 2022, Crumbley pleaded guilty to taking the 9mm Sig Sauer pistol his parents had given him earlier for Christmas, entering Oxford High School with 50 rounds of ammunition in his backpack, then shot at point blank range at his classmates.
Ethan Crumbley killed two girls and two boys aged 14 to 17 and wounded six other students and a teacher.
In another rare trial, his parents were charged with manslaughter because they ignored signs that he might do something like that.
Although they were called by the teachers, who informed them that their son was looking for ammunition on the Internet, they did not react, according to AFP and BTA.
