SC Paderborn is back on the road to success: just a week after their first defeat of the season in Kaiserslautern, the second division football team won 2-1 (0-0) at 1. FC Köln. With 19 points, the SCP is currently third in the table.
SCP striker Sven Michel was man of the match in front of 50,000 spectators in the Cologne stadium: Shortly after coming on as a substitute, he turned the game around with the first two goals his of the season within four minutes.
First, Michel equalized with a low shot in the 75th minute after the preparatory work of substitute Adriano Grimaldi (1:1, 76 minutes), then he woke up wide at a foot pass from Santiago Castaneda and pushed the ball over the line for the winning goal. (1:2, 80th minute).

Paderborn’s second away win of the season was fully deserved. The SCP had much more possession of the ball than the relegated Bundesliga side and also more chances to score. Defender Calvin Brackelmann almost missed a solo goal in the 88th minute.
Cologne, on the other hand, were stuck in an unusual wait-and-see mode and there was no sign of the Billy Goats’ fearsome pressure or offensive power. The new SCP goalkeeper Markus Schubert was rarely challenged and he executed it with confidence. The FC fans acknowledged their team’s performance at half time and after the final whistle with a loud concert of whistles.
Next Wednesday (October 30, 2024, 6pm) Bundesliga team Werder Bremen will be guests at the Home Deluxe Arena in the DFB Cup.
