Pamela Anderson is being hailed for her new makeup-free self, and fans are loving it.
Now several celebrities are jumping on the trend.
Michelle Pfeiffer (65) recently reached three million Instagram followers. She marked the milestone by posting a slightly different selfie.
“3 million followers. Thanks for hanging out with me here!!” writes the superstar followed by a white heart.
But it is not the pleasant greeting to the fans that has received the most attention.

The 65-year-old is being praised for the make-up-free selfie, and the comment section is overflowing with words of praise from friends and fans.
“I love when celebrities post makeup-free selfies. Michelle is so beautiful and amazing – at any age,” writes one.

“I remember when you first showed up here and it was like finding ruby red shoes. You are gold,” writes fellow actress Selma Blair.

Helle Kannik Haastrup, lecturer in film and media studies at the University of Copenhagen and author of the book Celebritykultur explains the tribute like this:
– In a way, Michelle Pfeiffer manages to appear authentic because she shows herself without make-up, which is still unusual on Instagram. But it’s also about looking young for as long as possible – both in Hollywood and on Instagram – with a requirement that it be natural, says Haastrup.

– In her selfie, Pfeiffer appears natural, and this is praised by followers and colleagues. Another example is Madonna who became shams when she performed during the Grammy show because it was obvious that she looked different than she usually does.

Pfeiffer’s makeup-free selfie joins the ranks of no-makeup celebrities. Drew Barrymore and Gwyneth Paltrow are among the celebrities who have also been praised for posting such photos.
– Appearing authentic and natural is important. The new thing is perhaps that she is somewhat older than, for example, Barrymore and Paltrow and therefore in a Hollywood perspective appears almost brave and fearless, says Haastrup.
