Michelle Obama on the children’s cookery program “Waffle and Mochi” – media

The staggering world history could do with well-defended democrats, but unfortunately the Obamas are already doing something: Barack gave the little book shipment Hot off the press An interview on the ARD late-night program recently, and Michelle is now talking about vegetables for ten episodes with two dolls. Is that escapism, business acumen, or just a brief respite when it comes to saving the world? There are some arguments in favor of options 1 and 2: Michelle Obama just said in a US interview that she and her husband had decided to travel after the summer in the future and that they were planning their retirement. Barack Obama now has a podcast with Bruce Springsteen on Spotify, and “Higher Ground,” the Obama’s production company, has already sold six formats to Netflix. Obama fans can still have a little hope of a political comeback, because if you want, you can also find in Waffle and mochi nor the dedicated Michelle Obama of the first lady years.

She had repeatedly advertised healthy eating in the White House – the annual death rates from obesity and corona are almost the same in the USA. Michelle was already having serious conversations with dolls at that time, twice during the Obama’s term in office Muppet Show on. Anyway there is Waffle and mochi a lot of effort not only addressing young children, but also their parents. The many guest appearances will light up adult eyes, especially those of Netflix subscribers: Gaten Matarazzo (from Stranger Things), or Tan France (from the also multiple award-winning show Queer Eye).

The accompanying story (waffles and mochi come from the frozen land and want to become real chefs) doesn’t matter, the ten episodes are all structured in a similar way: Our doll heroes have to solve a problem (sort tomatoes, salt biscuits, find different types of egg), that’s why they travel to a flying shopping cart around the world. In between, children from all over the world are interviewed, there are cartoon clips and at the end, when the adventure is over, Michelle Obama receives praise and a badge. “Mrs. O.”, as she is only called, is simply the owner of a supermarket and roof garden in the series.

And how much fun is it now? As a viewer you go to a Netflix show with expectations in the end credits of “Executive Producers Barack and Michelle Obama”. And then the first episode is more of a Kika afternoon than Netflix primetime. If, after the first few minutes of broadcast, you have got used to the fact that the famous Michelle Obama is actually acting and dancing, it is – as cute as the dolls are – just: a children’s cookery program. Everything well done, but not yet a star cuisine, so to speak. But then, starting with episode three, shows Waffle and mochi quite depth: the potatoes in Mrs. O.’s supermarket are so unpopular that the two dolls should break open to improve their image. The two of them grow potatoes on Mars with the help of a NASA expert, and in between it is explained how a certain Antoine Augustin Parmentier turned potatoes from pig feed into a world-class French fry in France. And in the end, Michelle Obama says that inner beauty is more important than the potato exterior. This woman is destined for greater things.
