The heavy snowfall that has ravaged large parts of Denmark over the past 24 hours has led to more people having to seek shelter.
The police in North Jutland have come up with several warnings on Twitter through the night and advised against all unnecessary traffic out in the terrible storm.
One of those who really noticed the consequences of the snow weather is Michelle Barrett (25).
– There was just more and more snow and it was blowing hard. In the end, there was so much that the buses stopped running and there was over 20 cm of snow on my car, says the shop worker to Dagbladet.
Therefore, she chose to try her luck at the neighboring store Ikea.
Michelle had just finished work at a nearby toy store and had seen a notice that several people had been snowed in at Ikea.
– The first thought was to sleep in the car, but it would be really cold, so we took the chance to get into Ikea, she says.
Together with two others, they braved the snowstorm and walked the 200 meters to the large furniture store.
–
Fortunately, an employee came out of the staff entrance and was able to let in the cold workers.
– They were so beautiful and very welcoming. We were allowed to enter and they showed us around. Then we got rice porridge and there was football on the screen, says the 25-year-old.
It was not just people at Ikea who experienced the consequences of the snowstorm yesterday.
At 19.26 on Wednesday night, the North Jutland police wrote on Twitter that all air traffic from Aalborg Airport was temporarily suspended.
The terrible weather led to 300 people having to spend the night at the airport, while the ground crew worked hard to clear the runway of snow, writes Danish TV2.
– We have approx. 10 employees at the airport who take good care of the passengers, where everyone has been given blankets so that they can stay warm and hopefully calm down during the night, says Kim Bermann, operations director at Aalborg Airport.
Last night, they hoped to get the planes back in the air from the morning, but on the airport’s website, some departures were canceled on Thursday morning, and several were delayed due to the amount of snow.
