Michelin-starred Chef fined and sentenced after wedding guests fall ill from contaminated risotto – Internet outrage ensues

When a wedding party was served a risotto with clams at the Michelin-starred Piccolo Lago restaurant back in 2021, the party took a sinister turn.

Now the chef behind the restaurant, Marco Sacco, has been fined and sentenced to a suspended prison term.

He has previously received two Michelin stars at the restaurant, which is idyllically located along Lake Mergozzo in Piedmont, northern Italy.

People react: – Ugly and weird

In the aftermath of the dinner, dozens, specifically 53, of the wedding guests fell ill.

It is said to be due to the mussels which were probably contaminated with norovirus, which is the most common cause of stomach and intestinal infections.

Now both Sacco and the restaurant manager have been sentenced to two months and 20 days in prison and a fine of 20,000 euros, just under 223,000 Norwegian kroner. The Italian La Repubblica reports.

The Michelin chef says that he has served similar dishes to over 3,000 guests without problems before. At the same time, he insisted that all procedures had been followed carefully.

The internet is boiling over this

Nevertheless, the court chose to convict him. Included in the fine was compensation to all 53 sick guests of 250 euros each.

Michelin’s own guide describes the Italian restaurant as a charming restaurant with a timeless feel and excellent cooking. On Tripadvisor, Piccolo Lago has a whopping 4.5 out of five stars.
