The new Michelin stars have just been announced. The Netherlands still has one three-star restaurant left. De Librije in Zwolle is the only one to keep three. Restaurant Inter Scaldes in Kruiningen, which shared the top spot for years, goes from three to two stars. Ten star establishments make their debut.
The other one-star businesses are standing up this current list. In addition, the Netherlands already had eighteen restaurants with two Michelin stars, now nineteen. Michelin previously announced that the Netherlands has fifteen new Bib Gourmand restaurants. These are restaurants with a very good price-quality ratio and therefore more accessible than a star restaurant.
The Michelin star is an award for restaurants with good to very good cuisine and correct service that are published in the famous ‘Red Guides’ with car routes of the tire brand Michelin. Awarding means important marketing support for the catering brand and invariably results in publicity, extra customers or reason for a slightly more expensive menu.
Winners one Michelin star
And the Green Stars are for…
Michelin has recently also awarded ‘Green Stars’. Such a star goes to restaurants that focus on sustainability. This year, eight restaurants received such an award, including restaurants Flores in Nijmegen and Heimat in Utrecht. The rating levels from the tire maker’s perspective are:
- One star: high quality, worth a stop
- Two stars: excellent cuisine, worth the detour
- Three stars: extraordinary cuisine, worth a special trip
